A three-year-old boy was attacked and dragged into the Matetsi River by a crocodile in a tragic incident that occurred at Masikili Village in Jambezi on February 10, 2026.

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the child had accompanied his mother and sibling to the river for fishing when the attack happened.

Police said the crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and seized the toddler before dragging him into the river.

The ZRP confirmed that a joint search operation involving officers and the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority is currently underway to recover the child’s body.

Authorities have urged members of the public, particularly those living near rivers and water bodies known to have crocodiles, to exercise extreme caution and closely supervise children at all times.

The search for the missing child was still ongoing at the time of reporting.
