 Zim Now Writer

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister Felix Mhona on Monday visited the Timboom road traffic accident scene and declared the accident a national disaster.

The Minister was accompanied by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland East, Apolonia Munzverengi, officials from his ministry, and members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police, among others.

He also visited the injured who are admitted at Chivhu Hospital and also comforted the grieving families.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning at the 5-kilometre peg along the Chivhu-Murambinda Road.

The bus, which had 40 passengers on board, veered off the road and crashed leaving twelve people dead including the driver.

Another passenger died while admitted to Chivhu Hospital.

The ZRP said they were yet to establish the cause of the accident but initial investigations show it was caused by speeding.

Recently, road traffic accidents have been attributed to speeding, overtaking error, reckless driving and fatigue.
