Twenty Zimbabwean learners have left for Belarus as part of a cultural exchange programme aimed at strengthening educational and people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The delegation, made up of learners aged between 12 and 15, includes two representatives from each of Zimbabwe's ten provinces.

The learners were officially seen off by senior officials from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education together with parents and guardians.

The programme is being conducted under a humanitarian initiative supported by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, which invites children from partner countries to experience Belarusian culture, education and everyday life while interacting with local learners.

Speaking to Zim Now, Belarus' Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Yury Nikalaichyk, said the visit was intended to promote friendship and cultural understanding between young people from the two countries.

"This is a purely humanitarian project. We are pleased that a group of Zimbabwean children has travelled to Belarus, and we hope such humanitarian exchanges will continue," he said.

During their stay, the learners will take part in cultural activities, educational workshops, institutional visits and historical tours designed to broaden their understanding of Belarus while building friendships with their Belarusian counterparts.

Upon arrival in Minsk, the delegation was welcomed with the traditional Belarusian bread and salt ceremony, a gesture symbolising hospitality and goodwill.

The exchange programme forms part of growing educational and cultural cooperation between Zimbabwe and Belarus, with both countries seeking to strengthen ties through youth engagement.
