Hopewell Zinyau, Chief Executive Officer of Zimbabwe’s Deposit Protection Corporation, has been elected Vice-Chairman of the International Association of Deposit Insurers – Africa Regional Committee, a move that highlights Zimbabwe’s growing influence in regional financial governance.

DPC said the appointment reflects recognition of Zinyau’s leadership, expertise, and dedication to strengthening deposit protection across the continent.

The Africa Regional Committee serves as a collaborative platform for deposit insurers to exchange knowledge, provide policy guidance, and support initiatives aimed at enhancing financial sector stability.

“The Committee plays a pivotal role in training, research, and advising on deposit insurance frameworks, helping to safeguard depositor confidence across Africa,” the DPC noted.

Established in 2002 and headquartered at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, IADI is a global standard-setting body for deposit insurance.

It collaborates closely with international institutions, including the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund, and currently represents more than 100 deposit insurers worldwide.

Zinyau’s new role not only elevates Zimbabwe’s profile in the international financial community but also positions the country to contribute more actively to the development of best practices in deposit insurance and financial safety-net systems across Africa.
