Man in soup for selling fraudulently registered vehicle

A man from Southlea Park, Harare, who allegedly sold fraudulently registered car has been taken to court.

Thulani Chimwaza, 34, of Southlea Park, appeared at the Harare Magistrate’s Courts charged with fraud.

He was remanded in custody.

The complainant in this matter is Marleek Chikowore, 27.

The State alleges that on March 25, at around 1830, Chimwaza sold a fraudulently registered Toyota Mark X to Chikowore for US$4 100.

It is alleged that Chikowore then sold the car to Jayakrishnan for US$4 700.

On May 23, the police from CID VTS Harare came across Jayakrishnan, who was driving the Toyota Mark X and checked it in the Central Vehicle Registry system using its registration number plate and it was discovered that it had changed plates from AET2876 to AGG9856.

The car was physically inspected and it was observed that the chassis number was tempered with.

The police then impounded the car.

As a result, it is alleged, Chikowore lost US$4 100.
