A Chinese national has been taken to court accused of defrauding a fellow Chinese national US$16 000.
Song Shanjin, 35, Gunhill, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with fraud.
The complainant in this matter is Weng Fenglin, 37.
The State alleges that sometime in May 2023, at Strake Avenue, Gunhill, Harare, Shanjin lied to Fenglin that she wanted to open a company of which Fenglin is one of the directors.
Shanjin allegedly lied that she would allot Fenglin 30% shares from the pre-registered company once he paid 100 000 RMB (Chinese currency).
Fenglin paid the money through Ali pay online transfer.
It is alleged that Shanjin also lied to the complainant that she intended to apply for investors permit with Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency in behalf of Fenglin.
She allegedly made Fenglin pay 10 000 RMB through WeChat online transfer and US$1 000 cash.
Shanjin allegedly registered the company but did not include Fenglin as one of the directors. She also did not apply for the investor’s permit for Fenglin.
That is when Fenglin realised she had been duped and reported the matter to the police.
As a result, she lost 110 000 RMB equipment, US$15 000 plus US$1 000.
