Citizens Coalition for Change secretary-general, who was recently named as the leader of the opposition in Parliament, Sengezo Tshabangu, and his camp are ecstatic over government’s to disburse political party funds to the grouping.
CCC factions, including the one aligned to the party’s former leader, Nelson Chamisa, have been fighting each other over who should get the funds, which are disbursed under the Political Parties (Finances) Act.
Under the Act, political parties with parliamentary representation are entitled to State funding.
In another sign that Tshabangu had successfully snatched the CCC from Chamisa, the government announced that the CCC share of the funds would be to Tshabangu’s camp soon.
Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi has reportedly said government would disburse the funds to Tshabangu soon.
One member of the Tshabangu camp, Albert Mhlanga, said the disbursement of the funds was long overdue.
“We are happy that the government will be releasing funds soon,” said Mhlanga.
Mhlanga, at one point last year, attempted to dethrone Tshabangu.
“The delay in the release of the funds made political parties fail to pay for services and affected the day-to-day operational affairs of the party.”
The Chamisa-aligned faction has been insisting that they were the legitimate beneficiary of the political party funds.
However, government refused, citing CCC infighting as the reason for non-disbursement.
In curious developments that began, Tshabangu went on to recall CCC legislators, councillors and senators, resulting in Chamisa resigning from the party, arguing the opposition outfit had been infiltrated.
