Churchill High School graduate, Peter Taurai Chabarwa, 22, who is making waves in handball, is appealing for financial assistance to enable travel to Germany and Italy for trials to set for July, 2024.

In an interview with Zim Now, Chabarwa said this is a golden opportunity to showcase his talent to the world.

“This is the first time in my life to have this opportunity so I’m so excited to be part of these trials and I hope I will give my best because I believe that I’m a hard worker,” Chabarwa told Zim Now.

The young athlete eagerly anticipates the opportunity to represent the country on the international stage. However, without financial support, his dream is in jeopardy.

Chabarwa, who has unwavering passion and dedication to handball added that he is prepared to be a brand ambassador for any company that is prepared to make his journey a success.

“I really need financial support so that my trip can be successful or just to be a brand ambassador of any company that can boost my confidence.”

Currently playing for Manyame Falcons Handball Club, Chabarwa is supposed to travel on July 1, 2024.

Thunderbolts Academy, a South African Handball Academy that runs competitive Handball programmes for players around the Sadc region, also pleaded for financial assistance for Chabarwa in a letter.

“Peter Chabarwa, passport number FN974048 has been an exceptional player, having been part of the Zimbabwe National Team since he was in high school, this young star deserves an opportunity to showcase his talent at a global stage to further his career.

“We at Thunderbolts Academy are pleading with you to assist him with his travel expenses, return ticket, camp, accommodation, and food for the duration of the tour.

“Totalling US$2 600, Peter comes from a disadvantaged family and can not afford the cost of the tour that will definitely change his career in handball.

“We have established an athletic exchange programme with a few international organisations, and this opportunity will guarantee him Professional Trials and or exchange programme.

“We therefore again plead with you to assist this young talent and make his dream of being a professional handball player true.”

Chabarwa said the assistance he wants now is only US$1 000 after he managed to raise the other part of US$2 600.
