A chief billing officer at Vislink Investments has been taken to court accused of stealing more than US$5 900 from the hospital.

Loyce Mashoko, 41, of Sally Mugabe Heights, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft.

She was ordered to appear in court on June 20.

The informant in this matter is Vislink Investments, represented by Angela Zindi.

The State alleges that from December 2021 to sometime in June 2022, at Vislink Investments in Borrowdale, Mashoko was employed as a chief billing officer at the hospital responsible for billing patients, compiling of the blue books and was in charge of refunds to patients.

The court was informed that Mashoko then took advantage of the system and compiled entries from the hospital billing system into a manual blue book and entered wrong and understated figures from the original entries showing the actual amounts paid by patients, total bills incurred by patients.

Mashoko then overstated the total amounts to be refunded as a result stealing all the outstanding excess balances and also stole the refund monies given to her directly to refund patients and failed to it handover to them.

The court heard that Mashoko manipulated the entries and took away more than US$5 963.63 and some patients came back to the hospital claiming their refunds yet the hospital had given Mashoko all the intended refunds to her.

The offence was unearthed when some patients who had not claimed their refunds came to the hospital demanding their refunds, demanding their money yet the hospital had tasked and gave the money to Mashoko.

At that time, it is alleged that Mashoko was no longer available at work.

The alleged value that was stolen is US$5 963.63 and an internal audit is still going on.
