Sponsored by Exclusive Gift Shop, the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe, Baldmin Projects, Artisan and Priority and Medical Supplies among others, the event has attracted athletes from different provinces who are set to defend their titles as well as set their personal best times for the Africa Senior Championships scheduled for later this month.
In an interview with Zim Now, Zimbabwe Athletics Captain Gerren Muwishi said athletes will not be competing as individuals but will represent their respective provinces.
“It’s the National Track and Field Championships, also known as InterProvincials, where athletes selected from the 10 provinces will be competing against each other. It’s basically the national track and field competition, and athletes won’t be competing as individuals but for their province. It’s the equivalent of NASH finals, but for athletes of every age and background in the country.
“This year’s edition will be in Bulawayo on the 8th of June.”
Bernard Jay travelled all the way from Pretoria, South Africa, to represent his province, Mashonaland East.
“I’m representing Mashonaland East, and I am promising fast times and great achievement on field.”
Leeford Zuze of Chirumhanzu in the Midlands Province, promised to best results for his province.
“I want to show them that they do not call me ‘Monya’ for nothing.”
The tournament has medals and prizes.
