Rising stars David Nyamufarira and Elizabeth Msipa dominated the Baldmin Athletics championship first leg held at the National Sports Stadium this Saturday.
The two young athletes, who represented the country two years ago at the African Union Sports Council Region Five Youth games in Malawi, were at the top of their game at the Baldmin series.
David Nyamufarira won the senior men 100 and 200m races while Elizabeth Msipa won the same races in the senior women competition.
Nyamufarira was delighted after securing victory against seasoned athletes.
“I am happy with the victory. It means a lot competing with seniors who have been doing this for a long time. I want to make sure I qualify for the senior championships late this year."
Msipa was pleased to return to the track after being out with an injury for a year.
“I am happy with the victory, especially after my injuries, and had been out for a year, now the goal is to make sure that I qualify for the African Games in March."
Nyamufarira won the 100m race in 10.53 seconds ahead of Gerren Muwishi and Leeford Zuze.
Elizabeth Msipa won the gold medal in the senior women’s 100m race in 13.53 ahead of Linnet Zembe and Rumbidzai Kavonda.
