A 26-year-old man from Bekezela Township in Filabusi has been jailed for 15 years for raping a 24-year-old bar attendant after breaking into her room at Shayne and Love Lifestyle Bar Compound.
The man was convicted of rape when he appeared before the Gwanda Regional Magistrates’ Court and sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison.
The court heard that on May 25, 2026, the woman was sleeping alone in her room at the bar compound while her roommate was outside.

Her door had been left unlocked.
The accused allegedly entered the room and raped her. He was reportedly wearing a cap, a black T-shirt and blue jeans.
The woman woke up and recognised him, prompting him to flee after realising she had identified him.
She immediately informed her roommate when she returned, and the two reported the matter to ZRP Filabusi.
The woman was later medically examined at Filabusi Hospital.
A medical affidavit and other State exhibits were produced in court as evidence.
