ZIDA, InvestHK Forge Investment Partnership

The Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency and Invest Hong Kong have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening investment flows between Zimbabwe and Hong Kong.

Signed on August 30, 2026, the agreement establishes a framework for the two investment promotion agencies to promote inward and outward investment, exchange information on investment opportunities and support companies seeking to establish or expand operations in either market.

The partnership is expected to give Zimbabwe greater access to Hong Kong’s international business, financial and investment networks, while creating opportunities for Zimbabwean companies seeking to expand into Asian markets.

Under the agreement, ZIDA and InvestHK will facilitate investor referrals, business missions, meetings and roundtables, while collaborating on targeted investment promotion initiatives.

They will also share information on their respective investment environments and work to identify and address barriers that could affect investment.

ZIDA Chief Legal Officer Theresa Muchinguri said the partnership would focus on turning investment promotion into tangible business connections.

“Our objective is to create stronger pathways between international investors and viable opportunities in Zimbabwe. Through this cooperation with InvestHK, we can share opportunities more directly, facilitate introductions and support businesses that are considering Zimbabwe as an investment destination.”

She said the success of the partnership would ultimately depend on whether investor interest translates into projects on the ground.

“Ultimately, the value of this partnership will be measured by our ability to translate these connections into investments that are implemented on the ground.”

InvestHK Director-General of Investment Promotion Alpha Lau said Hong Kong could serve as a gateway between Zimbabwe and Asian markets.

“Zimbabwe is an important partner as Hong Kong deepens its engagement with Africa and the Global South under the Belt and Road Initiative.”

Lau said Hong Kong’s financial markets and connectivity with mainland China could help African businesses expand internationally.

“With our international financial centre, deep capital markets, world-class professional services and unique connectivity with the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong is the ideal springboard for African enterprises.”

She added that the agreement would create opportunities in both directions.

“Through this MOU, InvestHK and ZIDA will open doors in both directions and help Zimbabwean enterprises carry their ambition into Asia and beyond.”

Zimbabwe is seeking investment across sectors including mining and mineral beneficiation, manufacturing, energy, agriculture and agro-processing, infrastructure and services.

The agreement also provides a platform for Zimbabwean businesses to access international partnerships, technology, expertise, capital and wider business networks through Hong Kong.

Following the signing, the two agencies are expected to exchange priority investment opportunities and market information, identify and refer prospective investors, facilitate business missions and conduct targeted engagements.

The partnership forms part of ZIDA’s broader strategy of building relationships with investment promotion agencies and international business networks in key markets to improve Zimbabwe’s visibility and convert investor interest into actual projects.

ZIDA, which operates under the Office of the President, is responsible for promoting and facilitating investment in Zimbabwe.

The agency provides investor support through its One Stop Investment Services Centre, including investment analysis, company registration, tax registration, licensing, utilities connections, investment promotion and aftercare services.

It also facilitates investments through general investment projects, public-private partnerships and special economic zones.
