A man from Hopley Zone, Waterfalls in Harare, Tinei Kachipe has been taken to court for attempting to rape a 10-year-old juvenile.

Kachipe, 30, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with rape and was remanded in custody.

The complainant in this matter is a 10-year-old juvenile.

The State alleges that on May 31, at around 1400 hours, the complainant was at home with her three-year-old brother when Kachipe arrived and asked her if she had prepared any food but she said there was no food.

It is alleged that Kachipe went on to ask for a US$1 from the complainant but she said she had no money.

The court heard that Kachipe went into the complainant's house and asked the complainant's young brother to fetch water at their neighbour's house and he complied.

It is alleged that Kachipe took advantage of the young brother's absence and he asked the complainant to get into the house. She complied and went straight to her parents' bedroom, slept on the bed and got into the blankets.

He also got into the house and followed the complainant.

It is alleged that he asked her to remove her pant but she refused.

Kachipe then went on the bed covered the complainant with blankets and raped her.

She tried to scream, forcing Kachipe to stop what he was doing.

Kachipe then told the complainant not to reveal the matter to anyone and left.

The complainant put on her clothes and continued with her chores not knowing that her little brother had witnessed the incident.

The matter came to light at around 1800 when the complainant's mother arrived home from work and the complainant's brother revealed the matter to her.
