Zimbabwean church leader Walter Magaya has found fresh pastures in Malawi where he will charge a minimum of US$50 per person for those who want to attend his two day conference on this weekend at Bingu International Conference Centre.
“Some people are giving more than the minimum fee, but it is a minimum of $50 which in our currency is like MK100 000 for all the two days,” said Magaya’s Malawian host Prophet P Gondwe of Good News Ministries.
According to online sources the average salary of Malawian civil servants with a degree is around 340,000 Kwacha which is the equivalent of $204.
So they would have to part with a quarter of their monthly revenue to attend Magaya’s conference.
Gondwe said those who want one on one sessions with Magaya would have to pump out more.
Magaya, who heads the Prophetic and Healing Deliverance sect, at one time was arguably the most popular church leader in Harare but has faced declining church attendance numbers as well as sexual exploitation allegations, among other woes.
Gondwe said Magaya will be speaking on business, leaderships, entrepreneurship as well as healing and deliverance.
Magaya travelled to Malawi to commission his Heart Stadium 3 project which will be built in Chipala Community Ground in Ngomani. Magaya built Heart Stadium in Harare while he commissioned Heart Stadium 2 in Maputo recently.
