The Zimbabwe School Examination Council has expressed satisfaction in its recently introduced tightened security measures that have resulted in zero exam paper leakages in the recent mid-year public examinations which took place from May 27 to June 21.
The examination board attributed the positive outlook to the introduction of hard penalties for offenders, coupled with tight security measures around exam material storage and distribution to centres.
In an interview with a State publication, ZIMSEC public relations manager, Nicky Dhlamini-Moyo applauded the progress made by the exam board, together with other relevant stakeholders that has seen a flawless process over the period in question.
“The June examinations ran well, with the help of our parent ministry, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, school administrations, the national law-enforcement agencies and all stakeholders.
“We did not encounter any incidents where candidates had pre-access to examination question papers in the June 2024 examination session. For the June 2024 examinations, 144 candidates registered for the Advanced Level tests, while 32,049 candidates sat the Ordinary Level tests.
“The integrity of examinations is of vested interest to all Zimbabweans. ZIMSEC has put in place various measures, which include the daily delivery of question papers to cluster centres. We are grateful to all stakeholders and the nation as a whole for the support in keeping the examinations secure,” she said.
However, the celebrated progress by the council has not yet passed the test, according to commentators, being that June examinations in the past have recorded less to non leakages, the real huddle coming through the November exams, which normally attract a big number of candidates.
Last year’s leakages also came through the November exams, posing a challenge to ZIMSEC’s security measures which have been judged as premature celebrations, that have not proved their worth in the much anticipated November public sittings.
