New US ambassador pledges US$62 million for drought relief

The United States of America's Ambassador to Zimbabwe has said that her country is sending US$62 million to help Zimbabwe mitigate the El Nino induced drought.
"This funding, including US$39 million in additional support, will address short-term food insecurity and long-term strategies to improve agricultural practices and strengthen community resilience," Tremont said.
Tremont said Zimbabwe needs strong democratic institutions, good public health and regional security for broad-based economic prosperity.

She expressed her commitment to collaborate with Zimbabwe on improving the investment climate to expand economic opportunities for people and communities while fostering stronger business linkages.

She said this would lead to testimonies “that Zimbabwe is a good business partner that combats corruption; provides certainty in regulatory, monetary, and tax policy; and enjoys unbiased rule of law".
