A 35-year-old Chitungwiza man has appeared in court facing charges of theft of a motor vehicle after allegedly selling a car without the owner’s consent.

Tinashe Samuwi, 35, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of unlawfully disposing of a blue Honda Fit belonging to the complainant.

He was remanded in custody.

The State alleges that on August 13, Samuwi, working with an accomplice identified as Allan Tichaona Sumani — who is still at large — took the complainant’s vehicle, a blue Honda Fit (registration number AGF 6690), to Munya Cash Car Sales along Robert Mugabe Way, Harare.

The vehicle was placed on sale for US$6,800.

Munya Cash Car Sales reportedly intended to sell the car to one Milton Bvundura, who became suspicious after discovering valid car rental documents inside the vehicle.

Bvundura allegedly contacted the complainant to confirm the sale. The complainant denied selling the car, prompting Bvundura to alert detectives from CID Braeside, who later arrested Samuwi.
