Automobile Association of Zimbabwe recently sent a team to study Botswana’s Emergency Assist 991 to understand how that organisation runs a viable operation in a country with such a small population.
The benchmarking exercise was for AAZ to identify internal opportunities for improvement and expansion.
AAZ studied how EA991 has combined the provision of emergency medical services (on the ground and via air), roadside assistance and driver training academy into one service for the benefit of members.
EA991 has strategized through diversification and new revenue streams, elements that AAZ to add to membership subscriptions.
Some of the activities that EA991 carries out include:
· Driver training academy (Driving school)
· Staff outsourcing solutions
· Partnerships with medical aids
· Collaborations with insurance industries
· Adoption of new technologies
· Loyalty programmes
As part of the exercise, AA Zimbabwe met and interacted with some of EA991’s partners from different sectors and industries.
This allowed AAZ to appreciate how the partnerships are structured and the mutual benefit approach to the synergies.
AAZ provides road side emergency services and also issues international driving permits.
