The Zimbabwe Football Association has sparked controversy after announcing a shortlist of five foreign coaches to take over the reins of the Warriors. The decision to overlook local candidates has ignited debate among football enthusiasts and pundits alike.

The association revealed yesterday that Gerard Nus, Michael Nees, Marcio Maximo Barcellos, Antoine Hey, and Winfried Schäfer had been selected for the initial round of interviews.

These interviews were conducted on Monday, July 22, with a second round of evaluations scheduled for the coming days.

ZIFA has emphasized the rigorous selection process undertaken to identify the most suitable candidate to lead the national team to new heights. However, the absence of any local coaches on the shortlist has raised eyebrows.

This development comes as a blow to aspiring local coaches who have expressed interest in the coveted position. Critics argue that the decision to bypass domestic talent could hinder the growth of football in Zimbabwe.

As the second round of interviews commences, the nation eagerly awaits the announcement of the new Warriors coach. The chosen individual will face the immense challenge of revitalizing the national team and restoring pride among Zimbabwean football fans.
