NRZ In Awareness Campaign Drive As Accidents Surge

The National Railways of Zimbabwe has embarked on a nationwide Crossing Safety awareness campaign aimed at educating public transport drivers on road and rail crossing safety road-rail related accidents increase .

This year has already seen more than three such accidents, one involving a lorry, another a bus, all of which have been caused by reckless driving and ignorance by drivers while approaching railway crossing intersections.

Posting on X, NRZ said the campaign came to light amid a number of violations and increase in related accidents, with the need to educate especially public transport drivers taking centre stage.

“Following an increase in cases of accidents at level crossings, the NRZ is joining hands with various stakeholders to conduct a nationwide awareness campaign specifically targeting public transport drivers.

“Day 1 Level Crossing Safety Campaign.

The team started at the Paisley Level crossing, at the intersection of Lighton and Rekai Tangwena Roads in Harare. Coincidentally, a train passed by while the team was in the middle of the campaign,” NRZ said.
