A 45-year-old man who went to the complainant's house with the intention of robbing US$30 000 which he claimed he had been informed was in the house has been taken to court.

Washington Madziva Chikava, of Glaudina was charged with robbery by magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa.

He will appear in court on August 8, 2024.

The court heard that on February 22, 2024, Chikava together with his accomplices who are already on remand for other cases and another who is still at large went to Chisango's place of residence with unidentified pistol, knives, bricks, forcibly open the main door and entered the house.

Whilst inside the house, Chikava and his team demanded money from Chisango alleging that they had information that she had US$30 000.

“They demanded for her safe keys and that she directs them to where it was.

“Chisango told Chikava and his accomplices that she had no such amounts and did not keep a safe as a result there was nothing to show them.

“The accused allegedly started assaulting her with open hands and booted feet all over her body demanding for the money.

“They tied her mouth and both hands with a cloth and searched the whole house for the money but could not find anything,” the court heard.

She then surrendered to them US$$650 which was all her savings in the house.

They went on to steal a solar inverter, 24 volts lithium battery, Samsung M32, a Huawei phone, Ipad, small Alcatel phone, a wrist watch worth US$400 and a laptop worth US$200.

As a result, the total value of property that was stolen is US$2 920.
