Multi-award-winning martial arts star and Kobudo World Champion, Shihan Wilfred Mashaya is in England to compete at the International Martial Arts Corporation English Open Tournament scheduled for August 4, 2024, at the York Leisure Centre.
The tournament is set to draw 240 competitors from around the world.
The IMAC English Open will feature participants from various countries, including England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Zimbabwe, India, Nepal, Morocco, and the United States.
Mashaya has been inducted into the Hall of Fame and holds a 5th Dan black belt in Okinawan Kobudo
Mashaya is preparing for the prestigious Martial Arts World Championship, using the IMAC English Open as a key step. The championship will be held in Germany in October.
Before the main competition, Mashaya will also serve as a guest instructor for a weapons seminar on August 3 where he will teach the art of nunchaku.
In an interview with Zim Now, Mashaya expressed his excitement to be part of the tournament.
"I am honoured to be competing in the IMAC English Open and to have the opportunity to share my skills in the nunchaku seminar. This event will serve as an excellent preparation for the ICO Martial Arts World Championship, and I look forward to testing my abilities against some of the best martial artists in the world."
Mashaya has been using martial arts to fight societal challenges like drug and substance abuse as well as training women in self-defence techniques through Zimbabwe Ninja Academy.
