Council for Legal Education secretary, Hugging Duri and his accomplice, Linda Kovi who is employed by Kanoti and Partners as an Administrator have been charged with fraud for fraudulently attaining a certificate of association.
It is the state’s case that sometime in 2019, Kovi graduated with a Bachelor’s of Laws Degree from a university in Zambia. For her to practice law in Zimbabwe, she had to go through the process of attaining a certificate of conversion with CLE.
“She enrolled with CLE in 2020. Kovi registered to sit for four modules and passed three. She went on to register three other modules and failed all of them.
“Investigations also revealed that she did not write the Book-keeping module. She approached Duri and sought his assistance to fraudulently attain the certificate of completion,” the court heard.
Duri included Kovi on the list of the successful candidates. The certificate of completion was printed, enabling Kovi to be admitted as a legal practitioner by the High Court of Zimbabwe.
The matter will be proceeding to the defense case on August 19, 2024.
