A tragic road accident claimed the lives of six people and injured seven others on Sunday morning along the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road. The accident involved a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 19 church congregants which veered off the road and overturned.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson, Commissioner Nyathi, the fatal crash occurred at the 81-kilometer peg around 8 AM. Preliminary investigations indicate that the kombi’s tyres deflated, causing the vehicle to lose control.
The deceased have been identified as Chamunorwa Jejeje (32), Nokulunga Ncube (43), Salathiselu Zikhali Ndlovu (60), Marry Jongwe (62), Essley Mbewe (58), and Privilege Simango (23).
Commissioner Nyathi extended condolences to the bereaved families and urged motorists to adhere to road regulations and conduct thorough vehicle inspections before embarking on journeys. The police are appealing to witnesses of the accident to come forward with information that could assist with investigations.
