British influencer Andrew Tate, known for his masculinist views, has been taken into custody in Romania, alongside his brother Tristan, as part of a new investigation into charges of human trafficking and money laundering.

On Wednesday, their home was searched by DIICOT, the Romanian agency in charge of fighting organised crime. The authorities executed four search warrants in connection with charges of forming an organised criminal group, trafficking in minors, sexual relations with a minor, and money laundering.

Although investigators did not explicitly name Andrew Tate and his brother, they confirmed that their home had been visited as part of this new investigation.

Andrew and his brother are already facing charges of rape and human trafficking. They were arrested at the end of 2022 and spent three months in detention in Bucharest before being placed under judicial supervision with a ban on leaving Romanian territory. In June 2023, they were charged with allegedly manipulating women into believing in romantic relationships before forcing them to produce pornographic content. Andrew also faces rape charges.

In addition to the charges in Romania, the Tate brothers are the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by the British authorities for similar charges, as well as for tax fraud linked to income of almost 25 million euros from online activities. Romanian justice has indicated that it may accept their extradition, but only after the completion of their trial in Romania, a process that could take several years.

Despite these accusations, Andrew Tate continues to attract widespread interest on social networks, with almost 10 million followers on the X platform. Banned from Instagram and TikTok for misogynistic comments, the ex-kick-boxer remains a controversial figure, attracting many young people with his ostentatious lifestyle and get-rich-quick tips.
