29 drowning cases recorded between June and August

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has  revealed that at least twenty-nine drowning incidents were recorded between June and August throughout the country.

National Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said some of the cases occurred while victims were engaging in activities such as swimming, casting fish nets, participating in manjuzu rituals and bathing.

On July 7, the police confirmed a drowning incident in which a victim drowned while performing manjuzu rituals at Gariro River, Domboshava.

On August 20, another individual drowned at Harzel Dine farm Dam in Karoi.

It is alleged that the victim drowned while casting nets.

Meanwhile, in Kamatuvi on August 28, 2024 the ZRP received information on a victim that drowned while swimming in Chilonga River.

As people are entering the summer festival, Commissioner Paul Nyathi urges the public to take heed of safety and precautionary measures when they approach water bodies in order to safe guard lives.
