A couple who buried a three-day-old infant without notifying the relevant authorities have been sentenced to 280 hours of community service.
Samuel Makira, 32, and Violet Fundira, 21, of Chief Chinamhora, appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo charged with violating the Births and Deaths Registration Act.
The court found that on August 29, 2024, the couple’s three-day-old baby died, and they failed to report the death.
Instead, they took the baby to a burial site and conducted the burial without notifying the authorities.
