Chitungwiza former director of works in court for abuse of office

Former Chitungwiza Acting Director of Works, Emmanuel Mushata, 45, is facing sentencing after being convicted of criminal abuse of duty.

The charges stem from an incident in November 2019, where Mushata created an unauthorised residential stand by converting an earth road into a 476 square-meter plot.

He approved and issued the plot's layout plan to a Councillor, bypassing Chitungwiza Municipality's housing policy.

The issue was raised by concerned residents and reported to the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, leading to his arrest by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

Mushata will return to court for sentencing tomorrow.
