The Mbudzi Interchange project in Harare has reached another milestone with the opening of the Masvingo Road-Glen Norah loop, aimed at easing traffic flow from southern Harare.

Speaking at the launch, Transport Minister Felix Mhona announced that 74% of the project is now complete, with full completion expected by the end of the year.

Mhona noted that progress had been slowed due to the diversion of resources for the SADC summit and legal disputes with property owners.

"The opening of this road shows the gigantic project is progressing very well. This road is going to decongest the detours that people have been using," Mhona said.

He acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents around the interchange, stating, "Yes, it has been a painful process for citizens, especially those who stay around this place because they have been inconvenienced. They should exercise patience since it is a passing phase."

Addressing concerns about property disputes, Mhona added, "We had property owners around this interchange and we had to compensate adequately. I am glad to say that by the end of this month, everyone should have been compensated."

"With disputes now resolved, developers are focusing on completing two remaining bridges. We have two bridges which have not been completed because of the dispute with property owners and we are happy to announce that the issue has been resolved," Mhona said.

Pre-stressed beams are already on-site, signaling the project's continued progress.
