Solomon Maura, 36, of Unit G, Seke, Chitungwiza, has been charged with murder and attempted murder following a fatal altercation that occurred in May.

The case, presented at the Harare Magistrates' court, involves Maura's alleged role in a violent incident that led to the death of a man who was seeking revenge

According to the State's case, deceased and his friend, Panashe Gwenanguruve, were drinking at Channel O Budiriro1 shopping centre when the deceased had a disagreement with unidentified individuals. Gwenanguruve intervened, nut upon being released, fled the scene, leaving the deceased behind.

They then moved to Chisipiti Night Club where they continued drinking.

While in the bar Gwenanguruve had an altercation with the accused persons and their accomplices who were on the pool table.

The altercation escalated into a fist fight.

The court heard that one of the accused used a paper spray to spray the eyes of the now deceased and Gwenanguruve to get an upper hand as they got blinded.

That is when the accused then indiscriminately assaulted the now deceased and Gwenanguruve all over their bodies using chairs, booted feet and clenched fists.

They became unconscious and the accused left them in the bar.

After a while, Gwenanguruve gained consciousness and exited the nightclub without noticing that the now deceased was in the bar.

The now deceased failed to gain consciousness and died as result of injuries sustained.

On May 13, a post mortem was done on the remains of the now deceased and the doctor concluded that death was due to, universal subarachnoid hemorrhage and severe head injury.

On June 6, detectives from CID Homicide arrested HIelath Mizha and George Tapera in connection with the cases.

When they were interviewed, the two implicated the owner of the bar, one Edmore Musiza, Solomon Maura alias Solo, and one who was identified as Admire as the other accused in this matter.

It is alleged that on September 16, detectives from CID Homicide were informed that Maura was at a car sale along Seke road.

They went there and arrested him.

When he was interviewed, he admitted to have fought the now deceased and his friend but was not aware that the victim eventually died.

He, however, implicated one Aleck, George Tapera who has been arrested, HIellath Mhizha alias Dhewa, Edmore Musiza and one identified as Chris.
