In celebration of International World Clean-up Day, Agora Club Zimbabwe partnered with the Rafiki Girls Centre on Friday in a significant event that combined community service with charitable donations.

The Rafiki Girls Centre, founded in 2002, is a vocational training facility dedicated to empowering vulnerable young women, particularly those orphaned by HIV/AIDS.

Agora Club Zimbabwe’s President, Chido Musasiiwa Gutu, highlighted the importance of the partnership between the two organisations.

"Rafiki is our charity of choice, and we have been working together for the past year and a half," she said.

"To commemorate this global clean-up initiative, we decided to beautify the area around their school while adding a fun and creative twist with a trash fashion show that promotes upcycling and environmental conservation."

Hildah Mahachi, Executive Director of the Rafiki Girls Centre, expressed deep appreciation for Agora Club Zimbabwe’s support.

"These contributions will greatly aid our mission to empower the girls at our centre. We are grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it continues to have on the lives of these young women," Mahachi said.

The donation included essential items such as a washing machine, tables, chairs, electric irons, and printers. Gutu also revealed that laptops are on their way from Germany, and additional financial support has been pledged to further bolster the Centre's efforts.

During the event, beneficiaries of the Rafiki Girls Centre, Blessmore Charichafa and Patricia Samani, shared their personal experiences, expressing their gratitude to both Agora Club and the Centre for providing them with opportunities that have helped build their skills and confidence.

A standout feature of the day was the eco-friendly fashion show, where the Centre’s young women presented creative outfits made entirely from waste materials provided by Delta Beverages, including empty bottles, bottle caps, and cardboard boxes. This innovative display of trash fashion highlighted the Centre's commitment to environmental sustainability and waste reduction.

By transforming discarded materials into functional and stylish creations, the girls showcased their potential to contribute meaningfully to addressing environmental challenges.

The partnership between Agora Club Zimbabwe and Rafiki Girls Centre not only empowers vulnerable young women but also promotes a greener and more sustainable future for the community.
