Beerhall altercation results in 23-year prison sentence

A 22-year-old man from Shurugwi, Tinashe Dycool Mawere, has been sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of murder in a case heard at the Gweru High Court.

The tragic incident occurred on May 22, 2023, at Taona Bottle Store, Chinho Business Centre in Shurugwi, following a violent altercation. Mawere, along with the 25-year-old deceased, became involved in a heated argument at the bottle store.

The situation quickly escalated into a  physical fight, culminating in Mawere pulling out an okapi  knife. He proceeded to stab the victim multiple times-once in the back, the left thigh, the left shoulder, and the left eye. Additional injuries were inflicted on the victim's face, including wounds to the forehead, eft hand, and abdoen.

The deceased also sustained three stab wounds to his right hand.

Sadly, the victim succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Mawere was arrested after police responded to the report of the incident. After being convicted of the crime, Mawere was sentenced to 23 years behind bars.
