Drug bust in Zimbabwe woman arrested with 70.9 kilograms of mbanje

Pauline Mudavaka, a 36-year-old resident of Ruwa, was arrested on September 22 for unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs after police seized a substantial quantity of mbanje from her possession.

The incident unfolded when police stopped a bus on the Beitbridge-Masvingo Highway for routine inspections. Suspicious of the driver's attempt to evade authorities, police pursued the vehicle and conducted a thorough search. In the boot of the bus, they discovered six green canvas bags containing 27 rolls of dagga, carefully wrapped in black plastic and sealed with sellotape.

Mudavaka, who was a passenger on the bus, allegedly tried to escape the scene but was apprehended 300 meters away. Further investigations revealed an additional 5.7 kilograms of mbanje hidden in her bag, left on the bus seat.

Mudavaka appeared in Masvingo Magistrate Court on Tuesday, represented by Advocate Knowledge Mabvure. She was remanded in custody and is awaiting a bail ruling on Wednesday.
