Four individuals have been arraigned before the courts for allegedly pegging residential stands illegally in Eyecourt, Waterfalls.
The accused, Simon Nyambo, 37, of Eyecourt Farm, Phase 1; Edward Jailos, 43, of Greenland Farm, Phase 1; Bekhimpilo Chikore, 35, of Eyecourt, Phase 2; and Brian Maveve, 36, of Eyecourt Farm, Phase 2 — appeared before Magistrate Patricia Kamwanda at the Harare Magistrates' Court.
The State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, has charged the group with unauthorised development on the land. According to court documents, the incident occurred on September 24, 2024, when police officers, as part of an operation dubbed "No to Land Barons," received information that the accused were illegally pegging stands in Lot 4 of Eyecourt Farm, Waterfalls.
Upon arrival, the police questioned the suspects about whether they had the necessary permits to proceed with the development. The accused allegedly admitted that they had no documentation authorising the work, leading to their immediate arrest.
The complainant in the case is the State, which claims the illegal activity was conducted without approval, in violation of development regulations.
The four now face charges for carrying out unauthorised land development. The operation by the authorities comes as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal land dealings in the capital.
