The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the arrest of five suspects in connection with a series of violent crimes, including armed robbery, murder, and rape, across Harare, Mt Darwin, Mvurwi, and Dotito.
In a statement released, the ZRP detailed the arrest of Edson Murambidzi ,33, and Takudzwa Makanha ,24, who are linked to three armed robbery cases and a murder. The suspects were apprehended in Musungate Village, Juru, following a tip-off.
"On 19th July 2025, detectives from CID Homicide Harare acted on information received that Edson Murambidzi and Takudzwa Makanha were linked to several armed robbery cases," the statement read.
The duo allegedly attacked a financial service provider at Kuwadzana Two Shopping Centre, armed with pistols and wearing balaclavas. They blasted safes with explosives and stole US$9 000 in cash.
The suspects led police to the recovery of a .38 special revolver loaded with five live rounds, two stolen Wi-Fi routers, and other items. They also implicated eight accomplices who remain at large.
In a separate operation, detectives arrested Jameson Jackson ,28, Wickson Simon ,28, and Blessing Mapfuwa ,24, in Domboshava. The trio allegedly lured women through fake job advertisements on social media, robbing and raping them.
"The suspects would invite victims to Domboshava under the guise of employment, then rob them of their valuables before raping them," the ZRP stated. Police recovered nine women's IDs, six smartphones, and a fake pistol used to intimidate victims.
The ZRP urged the public to exercise caution: "Members of the public should verify the authenticity of job offers on social media to avoid falling victim to criminals."
