George Makomborero Chihota, better known as Rodygan, is a young Zimbabwean artist making waves in both the music industry and the world of mechanics.

His journey is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and determination as he skillfully balances two demanding worlds: motor mechanics and a blossoming music career. Rodygan’s double adventure is an inspiring story of grit, hard work, and the relentless pursuit of dreams.

Rodygan’s love for music began in 2012, during a time when international Hip Hop was defining a generation of artists. Influenced by rap icons like Lil Wayne, he realized that music was more than just a hobby—it was his calling. However, he didn’t stop there. His taste evolved, expanding to embrace genres such as Hip Hop Drill, Trap, Afro Beats, and Dancehall, creating a sound that reflects his wide range of influences.

Despite starting his musical journey with limited resources, Rodygan has produced over 30 tracks, an impressive feat for any independent artist. His dedication remains unwavering, and he plans to release three singles before the year ends, solidifying his presence in the local music scene.

Like many artists, Rodygan’s path hasn’t been without its obstacles. Finding affordable studios, video producers, and gaining airplay have been some of his biggest challenges. In Zimbabwe, platforms like Zimcelebs offer exposure to a broader audience, but they come at a high price. Yet, these difficulties have only strengthened his resolve. “Nothing big comes simple,” he says, a mantra that reflects his unshakeable belief in hard work.

From January 2023 to January 2024, Rodygan was signed to PMP Creative, a period that allowed him to hone his craft. After the contract expired, he made the bold decision to continue as a solo artist, further demonstrating his self-confidence and independence.

Rodygan’s ambitions extend beyond Zimbabwe. He dreams of becoming the most booked artist in the country and breaking into the international scene, with Shona music as his vehicle. Inspired by the rise of genres like Amapiano, Rodygan is working on creating a unique genre that blends Hip Hop, Drill, Trap, Dancehall, and Afro Beats. His vision is to take Zimbabwean culture global, a feat that demands not only musical talent but also entrepreneurial grit.

Currently, he looks up to local rap sensation Voltz JT and draws inspiration from international stars like Joyner Lucas and Melvoni, artists known for their storytelling and authenticity, which have greatly influenced Rodygan’s style and approach to music.

Collaboration is key in the music industry, and Rodygan has worked with notable artists like Zim Pogba, Karl Brez (on the track “Bad Chick”), Yanso Zenzo, and T Swang. He also played a significant role in the Voice of Zim Hip Hop (VOZ) Anthem track, further cementing his place as a rising voice in Zimbabwean Hip Hop. Backed by VOZ management, Rodygan’s name is quickly gaining traction in the local scene, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

Beyond his personal ambitions, Rodygan is passionate about mentoring younger artists. He believes in giving back and often offers guidance to the next generation of musicians. His advice? “Never give up.” Though the journey may be tough, Rodygan believes resilience is key. He understands the value of perseverance and hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams with the same tenacity he has shown.

While music remains his primary passion, Rodygan also has another love—motor mechanics. Currently studying at Msasa Industrial Training Centre, he is mastering the trade, proving that it is possible to balance two careers that require immense skill and dedication. For Rodygan, mechanics is more than just a fallback option; it’s another avenue to express his creativity and problem-solving abilities.

As Rodygan continues to navigate the two worlds of music and mechanics, he remains focused on his goals. With new music on the horizon and a firm commitment to building his brand, Rodygan’s double adventure is far from over.

Whether under the hood of a car or behind the mic, both sides of the coin reflect his unwavering passion and grit. The future looks incredibly bright for this multi-talented artist, and his journey is one to watch.
