The Southern African Development Community convened a pivotal Joint Meeting of Ministers of Health and Ministers responsible for HIV & AIDS today in Harare, focusing on key public health issues impacting the region with the aim of improving quality of life for SADC citizens.
During the meeting, ministers reviewed the current health landscape across the SADC region and assessed the progress in implementing recommendations from prior gatherings. Discussions covered a range of topics, from strategies to combat HIV & AIDS to broader goals aimed at fostering a healthier and more resilient Southern Africa.
Today’s joint meeting coincided with the SADC Malaria Day Commemoration and the launch of the “Zero Malaria Day Starts with Me” campaign, underscoring SADC's commitment to eradicating malaria in the region.
The campaign promotes the importance of individual accountability and community action in fighting malaria—a disease that continues to challenge public health in Southern Africa.
From November 4–6, senior health officials responsible for Health and HIV & AIDS held preparatory sessions, where they developed reports and proposals for the ministers' review, setting the agenda for the joint ministerial meeting.
The joint meeting and today’s commemorative events highlight SADC’s dedication to addressing pressing health issues through collaboration and proactive campaigns aimed at improving public health across the region.
