The Southern African Development Community  has extended the mandate of its mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (SAMIDRC) for another year. The decision was made at the SADC Extraordinary Summit held at the Parliament Building in Mt Hampden.

SADC Executive Secretary H.E Mr Elias Magosi announced the extension while reading the summit’s communique. The move aims to further the efforts towards bringing peace to the eastern region of the DRC, which has been plagued by conflict for decades.

The SAMIDRC, a regional peacekeeping force, has been deployed in the DRC since 2013.
