Kavango Resources PLC (LSE: KAV), a leading Southern Africa-focused metals exploration company, has announced bold plans to ramp up high-grade gold production at Prospect 4, part of its flagship Hillside Project in Matabeleland, Zimbabwe.

Currently, high-grade gold is being mined on a small scale by contract miners from narrow vein shears at Prospect 4. However, production is constrained by manual mining methods and a facility capacity of only 40-50 tonnes per day.

To address this, Kavango has commissioned a South African manufacturer to design a modular processing plant with a capacity of 100-200 tonnes per day.

Ben Turney, CEO of Kavango Resources, expressed optimism about the development. "We are progressing rapidly at Hillside. The data gathered so far, including significant vein set discoveries and high-grade gold intersections, strongly supports our plans to expand production at Prospect 4."

"With modern mining methods and a contemporary processing plant, we can unlock this project's full potential," Turney added.

The exploration results have been promising, with drill hole SDKD001 intersecting 2.53 meters grading 29.08g/t gold with a peak grade of 212.07g/t over 0.34 meters. Geological mapping has revealed at least 12 sub-parallel vein sets, with visible gold observed in surface outcrops.

Kavango plans to conduct further drilling early next year, targeting depths of 500-600 meters to test the continuity of the mineralized zones.

"Our goals are to use free cash flow generated through the new processing plant to fund further development and technical studies," Turney explained.

"We are confident Prospect 4 can sustain a minimum 100-tonne-per-day plant in the near term," he added.

Turney shared the broader potential of the project: "If results are favorable, the Technical Economic Assessment for Prospect 4 could provide a blueprint for substantially higher gold production. This is an exciting step forward for Kavango and Zimbabwe's gold sector."

Kavango will provide updates on drilling and plant development progress in the new year.
