A 25-year-old self-proclaimed prophet from Mount Darwin, Shepherd Maribha, has been sentenced to jail for indecently assaulting nine men, including minors, under the guise of exorcism.
Bindura regional magistrate Amos Mbobo handed down the sentence after Maribha was found guilty of the charges.
According to prosecutor Clever Nyapfani, Maribha invited several men to his room on different occasions last year, claiming to be praying for them. He would tell the victims that they were being bewitched before removing their trousers and committing the indecent act.
Maribha's luck ran out when some of the juvenile victims exposed him, leading to a police report being filed and his subsequent arrest.
