The President of the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, Noah Ferenando, has lauded Team Zimbabwe for its exceptional performance at the recent regional tennis tournament in Botswana.

Ferenando expressed his appreciation for the team's efforts, emphasizing the importance of such tournaments in showcasing talent and fostering growth in table tennis. He also reiterated the Union's commitment to supporting young players in their development for future competitions.

The athletes' success was made possible through the support of the Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe, which funded a month-long training camp in China, where the players honed their skills. This preparation was key to their strong showings at the tournament.

Among the highlights of the competition were several notable performances from the Zimbabwean athletes:

Kundai Goremusandu secured a Bronze Medal in the Under 13 category, earning 1500 Pula.

Trust Madoro finished 3rd in the Under 15 category, also winning 1500 Pula.

Shalom Makoni excelled in the Under 15 category, clinching 2nd place and receiving a prize of 2000 Pula.

Tatenda Timire took 3rd place in the Girls Under 15 category, adding another 1500 Pula to her collection.

However, not all matches went in Zimbabwe’s favor. Tatenda Timire was knocked out in the round of 16, and Munashe Mlaka was eliminated in the quarter-finals. In the Open Men’s category, Chamboko and Trust Madoro were eliminated early, while Tinotenda Fambira and Brighton Gweru also faced tough exits in the quarter-finals and round of 16, respectively.

The Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union also expressed its gratitude to various stakeholders, particularly the Chinese Embassy, whose sponsorship of the training camp contributed significantly to the team's success. The coaching staff’s expertise and guidance were equally acknowledged for preparing the players for the tournament’s challenges.

The Union concluded by reaffirming its commitment to nurturing the country's future table tennis stars, ensuring continued growth and success on the international stage.
