A Masvingo man has been arrested on allegations of flogging a fellow villager to death after accusing the deceased of stealing a pot of sadza and chicken.
Police announced the arrest of Makneme Chikutuva, 41, over the death of Maxwell Manjonjo, 42 at Village Midzi, Masvingo.
The police allege that on Saturday January 11, Chikutuva assaulted Manjonjo with ox yoke leather straps (zvitirobho) indiscriminately all over the body after accusing him of stealing a pot which contained sadza and chicken.
Chikutuva then took Manjonjo to Musingarahwi Business Centre, Masvingo and dumped him there after realising that the now deceased was showing signs of extreme physical distress and failing to breathe.
Police is also seeking one Takunda Gwitira in connection with the same case.
Zimbabwe has been named as high crime rate country with police expressing worry over the spike in murder cases.
This comes as the country has just removed the death sentence which was in the past sometimes passed for convicted murderers.
