The National Competitiveness Commission has appointed Dr. Obson Matunja as its Vice-Chairperson and Patience Chimuka as its Chairperson, effective December 16, 2024.
In its announcement, the NCC stated: "The National Competitiveness Commission extends its warmest congratulations to Dr. Matunja and Mrs. Chimuka on their well-deserved appointments and wishes them success as they lead the NCC into a new era of competitiveness."
Dr. Matunja brings an impressive academic and professional background to the NCC. He holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) degree, an MBA in Business Administration from the University of Zimbabwe, and a Ph.D. in Management.
A Chartered Certified Accountant with over 15 years of experience in auditing, risk management, and performance evaluation, Dr. Matunja has worked with organisations such as the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, ZIMRA, ExxonMobil, and ZESA Holdings. Currently, he serves as a consultant in forensic accounting and auditing.
Chimuka is an accomplished finance expert with a Bachelor of Commerce Honors in Finance and an MBA from the University of Zimbabwe. With over a decade of experience in banking, she has held key roles at Metbank and NMB Bank, focusing on trade finance, microinsurance, structured finance, and corporate banking.
She also serves as an Independent Trade Finance Specialist and is a board member at Golden Knot International. Her appointment is expected to bring innovative financial leadership to the NCC.
