Saving cattle as deadly January disease hits the country

Zim Now Reporter

The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development has warned farmers about a surge in the deadly January disease, or theileriosis, now affecting cattle in Zimbabwe.

The disease, spread by ticks, is a serious threat to cattle. The government is urging farmers to act quickly to stop the outbreak.

Steps for Farmers:

  1. Dip Weekly: Dip cattle to kill ticks and stop the disease.
  2. Watch for Symptoms: Monitor cattle for signs of illness.
  3. Report Cases: Contact your local vet immediately if infection is suspected.

January disease has caused over half a million cattle deaths since 2016, costing Zimbabwe more than US$250 million. Farmers must act quickly to protect their herds and avoid further losses.
