Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Bramha Kumar, met with Defence Minister Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri in Harare this Friday. The meeting marked a crucial step forward in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, with a focus on defence and security cooperation.

At the heart of the discussion was the impending signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) next month, aimed at enhancing cooperation in defence and security. The MOU will primarily focus on training programs, enabling Zimbabwean officers to receive further training in India. Defence Minister Muchinguri Kashiri emphasized that the main objective is to modernize Zimbabwe's defence system.

Ambassador Kumar also announced plans to resume joint commission and trade committee meetings, with the goal of reviewing sectorial cooperation agreements. These meetings will bring together various ministries, including defence, mining, and education, to explore new areas of cooperation.

Zimbabwe and India have a long history of bilateral relations, spanning multiple sectors such as education and health. The two nations have established various institutional mechanisms and agreements to facilitate cooperation in these areas.

The upcoming MOU signing and the resumption of joint commission meetings mark a significant milestone in Zimbabwe-India relations.
