In the shadow of the majestic Matobo Hills, where time-worn granite outcrops carry the weight of centuries, a meaningful cultural exchange unfolded — not in a formal hall, but under the open sky.

Zhou Ding, the Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, took a pause from the official proceedings of the Scholastica Conference in Bulawayo to engage with a group of spirited Zimbabwean students and teachers. What followed was a spontaneous and deeply human moment — a celebration of language, heritage, and shared curiosity.

“They taught me Shona & Ndebele expressions, and asked me to write their names in Chinese,” Ambassador Zhou shared on his X page. “That heart-warming exchange of words and scripts reaffirmed my belief: True education transcends textbooks. It blooms in nature's embrace, echoes through ancestral stones, and thrives when hearts genuinely connect.”

From language lessons to reflections on Zimbabwe’s rich history, the encounter captured the essence of people-to-people diplomacy — where learning is mutual, and connections run deeper than policy.
