The human resources officer at Rusape General Hospital, Collin Mukondomi had to run for his life after irate mourners decided to give him a crash lesson in ubuntu.
HR managers are called “echara” is street lingo, a name that is associated with their high and mighty attitude.
According to The Manica Post, Mukondomi used his allotted speech time at Martin Karichi’s funeral to speak ill of the dead, something that the mourners did not deem proper.
The funeral was held at St John’s United Methodist Church in Vengere.
Mukondomi said the deceased who was a nurse aide, had misappropriated the title Dr and used it to steal medications from the hospital which he prescribed and sold illegally.
Mukondomi went on to praise himself as the man who had reduced Karichi to general hand, saying he had in fact saved the deceased from dismissal.
The mourners decided that since Mukondomi did not know the basic rules of funeral etiquette, they would teach him promptly.
Mukondomi was reportedly dragged out of the church and physically chastised before he took a chance to slip out of the grasp of his teachers and make a run for it.
Mukondomi has since learnt his lesson and said he is waiting to tell the family that he is sorry:
“I wish to extend my sincerest apologies to all concerned parties. I have not yet approached them, as I believe emotions are still running high, but I intend to do so.
My comments were inappropriate, and I am not proud of them. What I said was not right.”
