A dozen unidentified and armed men raided a Kwekwe service station in the early hours of Monday morning and made off with almost US$600 000 in cash as well as a drilling machine.
Police have confirmed that they are hunting for the 12 man over the theft of “a Dewalt drilling machine, US$ 582 540.00 and ZAR 58 430.00 cash which was in a table drawer and Chubb safe”.
Members of the gang were armed with a pistol and an AK rifle.
They tied up the two security guards manning the premised using shoelaces.
The service station is along Parson Road.
The police are appealing for leads from members of the public. They are asking anyone with any information to report to the nearest police station.
Armed robbery cases have gone up over the past few years and the police have warned individuals and businesses against keeping large sums of cash on their premises.
