The Bindura Regional Magistrates' Court has sentenced 38-year-old Luckmore Mazambani to a whopping 111 years in prison for his heinous crimes against women in the Mt Darwin and Madziwa areas.

Mazambani, a resident of Chakondora Village in Shamva, pleaded guilty to six counts of rape and three counts of robbery. His reign of terror, which lasted from January to December 2023, targeted women who lived alone, leaving a trail of trauma and fear in its wake.

According to court records, Mazambani would break into his victims' homes under the cover of darkness, armed with machetes and axe-handles. Once inside, he would subject them to brutal rape and robbery, stealing valuable items such as cash, mobile phones, and groceries.

The court's decision to sentence Mazambani to 15 years for each count of rape and 12 years for each count of robbery sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated. The lengthy sentence is a testament to the judiciary's commitment to protecting women's rights and ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
